The City of Cleveland Department of Public Health

The Challenge:
Increase awareness and change attitudes about childhood lead poisoning among teachers and parents/caregivers in high-risk neighborhoods.

Approach: Established a clearinghouse of materials (Power Point Presentation, brochure, reminder magnet, and display posters) to educate teachers and parents. Outreach activities consisted of pre- and post-test assessments of lead poisoning knowledge and live presentations and distribution of of materials. Increased awareness of childhood lead poisoning issues among unreached populations.


NASA Glenn Garrett Morgan Commercialization Initiative

The Challenge:
Create awareness among a variety of stakeholders about NASA-sponsored small business technology transfer and commercialization assistance program.

Approach: Provided ongoing communications and marketing support in promoting the initiative throughout the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast U.S. Edited and produced bi-annual newsletter. Provided planning and implementation support to special events, including technology showcases, webinars, awards programs, and workshops. Program received regional and national media coverage, delivered technical and business services to more than 90 small and disadvantaged companies. Leveraged success of program to receive Ohio Governor's Award for Minority Business Development and other recognition.


The Cleveland Foundation

The Challenge:
Increase awareness about the nation's oldest and second largest community foundation's donor relations and grant making services among minority populations.

Approach: Conducted focus groups to gather opinions and attitudes about charitable giving and to determine media preferences. Developed and executed editorial and advertising campaign in local and national media, including a series of radio advertisements profiling African American donors, "Faces of Donors" advertorials, and editorial features on giving. Increased grant making awareness and donor prospect inquiries.
